Our family farm- (on the Colorado between Lometa & SanSaba) was/is a pecan farm. (wish the family still owned it)
    EVERYTHING EATS THEM !!!

My feeder in Leon County is under a pecan tree. The pecans that hit the ground do not last long. The deer will eat as many as they, the squirrels and coons eat as many as they can too. I also have a pear and a persimmon tree all within shooting distance from my stand in a white oak tree.

Buck-A-Do, That's the one! I used to get to hunt there before they changed General managers.

They love pecans and it puts some nice ribbon on them fat babies. We used to use the pecan orchard for our backup stand when the others didn't produce.

Just ask the folks in Pecan Plantation in Granbury if they deer eat them!! My Father-in-law lives there and it's like a freakin deer farm. They are always in the pecan rows...standing, sleeping, eating... It's a huge problem there!

I had a lease in San Saba and when driving by the several orchards on HWY 16 I never once saw a deer or hog out there so I would have guessed different also. I just figured they were to hard to break open for them. After seeing all the yes they will on here I guess I was wrong and just didn't drive by at the right time. Interesting.

My college roommate had an Uncle that got ag depravation permits to kill a certain number of deer in his pecan grove because they were eating his money crop back in the early 70's. Don't know if that still happens.

dr730, I grew up in that area, my ex-wife still has a small house there on the lake. I just missed our reunion this past weekend on the lake there, was taking a CQIA exam at UTD. You know you can get on the dam there at the lake and look down the valley there with binoculars and see deer most of the time. Also on the Pecan Bayou out of town you can paddle a canoe up stream and see all kinds of deer. I love that area.
