    ants in cameras

Do any of you fellow bowhunters, have a problem with ants getting into your trail cameras. I have already lost one to this, and just check another and, ants again. What the hell!

Did one year in Evant. I sprayed it down good with ant spray and put Amdro around the base. I'd just spray some ant spray on the post or camera casing every now and then and never had a problem again. Still had deer pictures so I guess they didn't mind the spray.

Ants for some reason are attracted to electricity. They usually eat through the weather seal, and then short out the camera. I would find a good poison and coat the post or whatever you have the camera mounted on.

So that is why the light switches in the barn are full of ants and don't work. Them suckers must really like the electricity...I sprayed the area and they still made their way back in there and shorted out the switches!!!

I had a couple of old Moultries that got ant infested and became trash. Of course this was back when it was a 35mm cam. Sure has a way of damping the mood, doesn't it?!

No ants but I do have a problem with woodpeckers breaking the cover of the sensor out. They have done it to 4 of them but they all still work fine

Get one of the insecticidal cow ear-tags, cut off a piece small enough to fit inside the camera case and put it inside. We use them to keep wasps out of feeder mechanisms too. Used to be a product called a "Shell No-Pest Strip" that was handy to put in blinds to keep the wasps out. It is no longer marketed but there is another similar product that works the same way. Just need to open the windows and leave the door open for a couple of minutes before you climb inside.

No problems here...and after reading this I will be preventing the problem from being able to happen

I had to send my old Cuddeback in twice 'cause the ants shorted out the circuit board. Now, with my new Cuddeback Captures, I put mothballs inside and have had no problems. I also put mothballs in the boxes that house my timers and batteries on my feeders to keep the red wasps out.
