    two way radios

what are some good two way radios ? I am looking for new radios and I enjoy the weather. Other then that I want distance and durability. What do you guys (and gals) use when you go hunting?

motorolas is what I've got now. they work well. don't believe any of the hype about 13 miles or 45 miles or a zilloin miles. it's all nonsense. the antennas on those units are not long enough to transmit more than line of sight. it can happen ocassionally but usually not. if you were on the ocean (perfectly flat) you could prolly get a long signal. but not on land.

and don't buy into the more power myth either. pushing more watts just drives your signal into the hillside harder, not over it.

X2! That's all B.S. Just buy a good brand name (Motorola or Cobra) and use em.

Agreed. Lots of hype on their capabilities. Also, to work well, "line of sight" is needed. If you have hills, mountains or other types of terrain blocking the signal, their reception is poor at best. We've been using text messaging on our cell phones for the past 5-6 years. You can also get a weather update on your cell phone.

I have Motorola Walkabouts and think they're junk. 1st they work less than 1/2 miles in mountainous terrain, and their tech support gave me the same bs about line of sight. If i can see the other person, I'll wave my arms. Secondly, don't buy them with 101 bells and whistles. Programming and using them is a real technical trick, and if somebody pushes the wrong buttons in the wrong order, they are all messed-up.

I'd get the cheap Midlands or Cobras or whatever they sell at WalMart and use them until they break, and then get new ones.
