I was driving them with adults on the back when I was 8 or 9, and by 12 I was riding alone. When I first started I had to remain within eyesight of an adult but it didnt take long for me to be out on my own exploring. Soon after that I got one stuck and learned a valuable lesson about how far away from the house you should be when you try something that might get a little hairy. I had my own quad when I was 14 and never got hurt more than a few scratches. By senior year the thing was toast though between me and all my buddies there wasnt much left of it, but we did have fun. I think if a kid has the muscle to turn it and the dexterity to work the throttle then they should be alloweds to drive, under supervision of course.

My 3 year old rides in the Rhino with me. Booster seat, seat belt, helmet and his little goggles. He thinks it is a hoot. JUst be careful with them in there as not only do you not want to risk injury to your little ones, you also do not want to scare them so bad that they will no longer tag along with you.
