    What we NEED is...

Someone to collect ONE broadhead of each type from our members in 100 grain and 125 grain sizes, as available, and have a traveling box that we can send out and let people try different heads in their bow and see which ones shoot the best. This wouldn't be a deal where people try them on game, just a tuning box of sorts to see what shoots the best in each bow. I could donate a Muzzy 3-blade in 100 grains and a couple of two blade points of various kinds. if you lose it or break it, you have to replace it.

    1 slick trick
    1 tallon
    1 muzzy three blade
    1 WASP
    etc...

It gets dang expensive buying heads just to see which ones tune best for your bow!

    That's a cool idea!

If you get this going, I'll go through my box and give one of each of whatever I have.

I know I have Razorcaps, Rage 2s (practice), G5 Montec, Muzzy 3 blades, and a few others.

Maybe the final organizer can take a picture of all the heads and label each, on a printed sheet, so the user can easily identify them.

Better yet....stop swapping heads and tune your bow to shoot the head that performs best on game. JMO

I think we can agree that the one that works BEST is the one you can put in the sweet spot but it drives me crazy watching people chase the magic head that will shoot out of their bow when my experience has shown me that a well tuned, properly set up rig will shoot most of the popular heads into the same group as your field tips.

                  That sentence contradicts itself.
I do agree that tuning is the answer, so when you get "there" won't all broadheads be the BEST broadhead ... assuming no operator error?

Even if we cast aside the tuning/shooting good aspect, this would still be an awesome tool for a new hunter (or even one that wants to look) to be able to put his hands on an assortment of broadheads and see which one gave him a warm fuzzy feeling without having to buy a bunch of new packs. Also, even a well tuned bow will act crazy sometime. This "kit" could save folks some money on experimentation.

Well, I am no expert on tuning, and perhaps what is being said is correct. But, I have my bow professionally tuned and still I will have one or two heads that fly better than another. For instance, I have heard great things about Muzzy, but they just fly like crap out of my bow (usually low and left), but WASP broadheads will fly exactly the same as my field points. Perhaps the "Professional" tuning wasn't good enough, but the bow should be tuned fairly well.

I think that most of the major manufacturers make good points and they will all kill the animal if hit correctly, it just seems that for some folks it might be nice to have a kit to test some different ones on their bow.

Back when I shot a bow with wheels, I used a good drop rest, small cutting diameter broadhead (sliktrik, rocket bacon skinner, or Montec- all 100 grains) and an arrow that was correct spine for my bow (Mathews Switchback at 65lbs.) But the most important thing is your form. Shoot with bad form when you're in a good position (target shooting at home), you'll shoot worse form when you find yourself in a position that is not so good (pop up blind, sitting on a trail for hrs on knees, or shooting around branches).

One more thing, tuning takes time, the "pro" you get to tune your bow isn't out in the brush with your bow, you are!! You should know everything about your bow. Its a long time between hunting seasons, more than enough time to do it yourself and get it right.

I do this on archery talk and it does save money trying to find that perfect broadhead that flies like your field tips. I tried it here, in the classifieds, but it eventually died.
