    Back problems - stupid move

About once every year or two, I forget that I have 4 protruding disks and I engage in physical activity meant for healthy men 15 years younger. Decided to tackle a crepe myrtle stump this weekend. Took 3 hours to dig around it and when I finally heaved it into the wheel barrow I estimated the weight at around 200lbs. Then I laid down a half yard of crushed granite and 250lbs of flagstone.
Paid the price this morning. Got out of bed extremely sore and made it about an hour at my desk before the spasms started really bad. Wife had to drive me to doc-in-the-box and now I'm enjoying a flexerile and tylenol 3.
I'm sure there are other TBH'ers that can relate

Hate to hear that I finally broke down and bought a skidsteer for all my lifting and digging.

I feel your pain. I damaged my back lifting an atv by myself and about every two years it takes me down for about a week.

I feel your pain. I lifted a 5000 watt generator off the ground and put it in the back of a truck 15 or so years ago. "smooth move ex-lax" is an understatement! I haven't been to a witch doctor yet (refuse to go) but once a year or so my lower back will go out. I can move wrong, sneeze in the wrong position, cough in the wrong position or may wake up with it our of whack. A round of Doan's backache pills, Tylenol and a heating pad for one day then I MAKE myself get up and move. Regardless how much it hurts. It'll start easing up but I'm not laying around letting it get stove up any worse.

I'm getting the 3rd shot of epidural injections in the morning. This is my second round of 3. The first round was 2 years ago, prior to that had back surgery in 99'. My problem is that i'm strong as a horse, but my back belongs to a goat. At least 2-3 times a year, I throw mine out. I'm learning, as this time I have fought the pain for a month.

I had a flare up about 3 weeks ago. Visits to the chiropractor got me back to feeling good. I'm trying to do whatever it takes to not get another epidural shot.

              Good luck.

My bottle of flexerile and I are good friends every now and again......whenever I'm reminded of the L4-L5 bulging discs and stenosis problem I have. Occasionally I have to treat myself to some vicodin. Seems I have the Lumbego! I know your pain, my brother.

2 herniated disc's, spinal cord swollen in spine, early signs of degenerative disc disease, bone spurs on my vertebra and the kicker is that I apparently broke/cracked two vertebra and there are signs of calcification on them.

I might wake up wrong, sneeze wrong, cough wrong, or bend over wrong and set off a whole month or two of pain. So far this last bout is still going since January. Pinched nerves in my legs that tingle and I never know fron day to day how I will feel.

                  IT SUCKS!

That's what I got going on! Haven't felt my toes on my right foot for over a month. Always feels like my leg is a sleep or tingling, hurting, kind of feel like Dr. House.

Dang, I fell asleep right after this post and am just now seeing all the responses. The flexeril and codiene combo did the trick. I slept solid for the first time in months and woke up a little tender but no sign of spasms.

Needles in the spine are NOT part of my plans.

I have the same problem. Finally had an MRI and the ortho told me I have early signs of disc degeneration and a couple of mild herniations. I'm strong as a bull but my back is the weak link and when it goes I am down for a week. Fortunately, I only really tweak it about once every 3 years or so. This last bout put me down for almost a month. Vicodin and flexeril cleared it right up.

Have had two back surgeries and one on the neck. Right now I have one herniated disk and one that is bulging. I can go for months and have no problems at all, one wrong move or stupid mistake and it's out.

I am feeling the pain today as well. Rheumatoid arthritis of the spine and can barely walk today. Back pain sucks.
