safely posting pictures on the internet where they can't get stolen...

We have such a wide range of background/experience in here. Does anyone know how to do it?

My sister left a portfolio of photos that would just blow you guys away that I want to share with you but I don't want the rights stolen. I want a bulletproof look but don't link/download way to do this. You Africa guys would just freak at some of her photos.

All the usual "public share" sites immediately own the photos if you use them to post the photos. It doesn't matter if "your site" is password protected.

Any ideas? Don't expect me to post them tonight even if you give me the perfect answer.

    Thanks guys.

Pretty much you have to watermark them.

It's not bulletproof, but it will slow the casual right-clickers...

If she has her own website, it is possible to disable right click, copy, save.

    But again, not uncrackable.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. We will probably end up selling the images to Getty or someone like that with the proceeds/royalties going to her foundation. I was just trying to figure out a way to share them with you guys before we did that.

there are some online tools that allow you to lightbox photos, and only allow viewing. I'd pop over to the photo forum, there are a couple of pros there that can share some hints.

As said, without your own website, it's tuff to keep them safe. You can resize the files to keep the full image off the net.

Look at all the stock photo places how they do it. They always put a water mark across the images like a logo.

the only thing you can do is watermark or make them so small or poor quality that they wont want them

if you can see them on the net, you have already downloaded them....you send a request across the net to get whatever, it is then displayed on your screen after downloading...so not letting people download is a no go.

Javascript right click disable is a joke so don't even think about that one.

what you can do, which is what I have done on several of my sites is go with on the fly watermarks or you can have the original set safe with no watermarks and then another set with watermarks or tags on them and those are for display to the public.

With Carbonite they are backed up just like any other file. You have the encrytion password so they are safe. If you ever need to restore them to your computer you have to have the password. I love this backup program and have it running a several computers. Check it out.

Sorry I did not read that you want to share them. Storing them is safe as I said.

Watermark them. If you can post them and make them viewable on the internet, I guarantee you I can steal them. So if you want to show protected content but don't want anyone to steal them, watermark them and use smaller pictures than full size or at least save them at a diminished quality than the originals. That way it would take some work to steal them and turn around and sell them.

Watermarking is the only way. Period. Even then anyone good with Photoshop can fix it in 5 minutes... Not that I've tried

Blacksunshines solution is best. Being both a web designer and programmer I can say that for all intents and purposes digital images are almost impossible to protect. If it's displayed on my monitor I can save it.
