Wow, have I been doing this wrong???

So, when you use a strap release, should you be pulling the trigger with the first or second knuckle? I have always done it with the first knuckle. This video shows what I mean. Start at around 2:00 or so.

So, is this the proper form? I guess I need to re-evaluate my shooting as I have always shot first knuckle, like shooting a gun.

I've seen it done both ways. Seems I was reading that the second knuckle was less likely to punch than the first somewhere......

I can't believe that a person has nearly as much control with the second knuckle than around the tip of the finger.

Yep, he said that using the second knuckle pulls the release straight back, while using the first knuckle tends to push the release down.

That's the point. Trying to control the timing of the release leads to punching the release and target panic.

Kind of depends on who you ask and how much travel and pressure(or lack of) you intend to use to make a trigger release fire.

If you can find them, videos of Tom Crowe and Dan Renner & Dietmar Trillus are very good examples of how to shoot a trigger style release.

I was taught that when pulling the bow back that you place your finger BEHIND the trigger to make sure you don't accidentally release the arrow. Then you place your finger in front when you are ready to shoot. Can you do that if you are pulling with your second joint?

I was looking at releases today thinking that I might buy a Scott release. I tried several on and noticed that the trigger was WAY too close to my palm to use my first joint. I thought maybe Scott releases were made for smaller hands until I saw this video. Now I wonder if maybe they are MADE to be used with the second joint?

I have seen guys that use this type of release use the second knuckle when they shoot with back tension to release the arrow. I personally use the first knuckle and squeeze the trigger like shooting a gun.
