There is no law against having the gun loaded. A rifle or shotgun does not have to be concealed.

Hey guys I just posted the stute that you would have issues with if someone was alerted to the firearm. Read number 8 under my first reply.

There are no other laws that cover anything about carrying long guns, other than on Goverment owned areas.

I would just carry that sucker locked and loaded laying across my lap......

Of course you may want to take any U.S Postal Service stickers off your truck

perfectly legal to carry shotgun or rifle OUT of the case with as much ammo as you can shove in it.

So does the law change if you are not in a rural area? If your in the middle of down town Dallas or somewhere like that.

nope, unless you create alarm in some shallow minded individual. This is not to say you won't get pulled over and messed with!

i'll ride with the sbr at arms length when heading out to the ranch but I do not have displayed where other folks can see it...i agree that exposed guns could possibly cause you some grief albeit legal.

He said it had to be in the rack of a window in truck,etc...

This is the only part of his statement that I worry about that has not been specifically answered. Is it a violation to have it concealed? I personally don't consider it "concealed", I consider it "secured".

He is wrong. Easiest way to tell him is to ask him where in the Penal Code, which specific statute, it is because you have looked and can't find it. Once he looks he'll know.

Meeteater hit it on the head. Long guns can be in the vehicle, loaded or unloaded, concealed or in the open, as long as you don't violate the Disorderly Conduct statute, which is pretty easy to do nowadays.

I have been pulled over many times with a rifle in the truck I tell them it is in the truck of course never had a problem. I did have one officer grab it and check it which really was none of his business I told him it wasn't loaded and he still checked but never had any problems.

                              He is wrong, period.

While it is DOC to display it in a manner "calculated to alarm", sitting on your front seat does fit. If you get out and wave it around then it is an offense. Sitting on your seat loaded or unload is not against the law. Whether someone sees it and is offended is not in the law. That is for language and noise DOC charges. Being offended by a firearm doesn't make it illegal.

I carry a Beretta CX4 Storm (.45 cal) in the case and loaded in my F150 at all times. It is under the back seat, neatly tucked away.

I would never carry a long rifle in the rear window of my truck at any time!!! That would be asking for TROUBLE!!!
