My lease is split in 2 by a small creek. The back half which backs up to the river (probably the better half) is inaccessible to tractors and trucks. It's too thick to do anything with, but it would be awesome to put a stand and feeder back there. Any ideas on how to clear come of it without a shredder?

I'd use a chainsaw or some type of cutting device to clear you a spot. I'd also look on google earth from an aerial view to possibly scout an area in which would benefit you the most. They always said hunting ain't east and neither is the setting up part either. Good luck!

I would go in with a chainsaw and just cut some small walking paths through there. Then use a herbicide like Remedy and diesel to select trees and start spraying. Do this in small 1/4 acre areas and primarily around any mature oaks (dont spray the oaks) not only will allow you to set up in there once the trees are dead, but it will release your big oaks and allow them to maximize their acorn production.

X2 This sounds like a well thought out deal. Canny, you must be a forestry major at SFA. With the acorns like they were last year, this could be the golden ticket!
