The guess the hog weight thread got me to thinking. At .25 cents a pound Is there anybody that buys live hogs in the Livingston area? If so is there a size limit that they have to be at least a certain size. Right now we are getting torn up by pigs, and have groups of 20-30 coming to the feeders all the time and then have a few big guys coming in the middle of the night. I was thinking about getting some panels and t-post to set up a large figure 6 type trap.

ive got herds of em too and ama bout to do the same with the trap but they wont be walkin out of it. ill start with my freezer then whoever. not taking a chance on someone buying em and releasing em somewhere else. -

The prices that they are paying dont even pay for the gasoline to haul them in, its not like it used to be, you can do better selling hogs to hog hunters who want training hogs, last load I got about 12 cents a pound for, diesel is $3.00 a gallon so I sold 3000 pounds of live hogs for $360 and had to load them and unload them and drive 40 miles to the buyer, i had them in the pen for 30 days and wormed them and fed them 100 pounds of corn every day as well, so unless things have changed shoot them or let them go before you get upside down with them like i did. i even had to haul some back to the ranch as they would not take all of them... its a shame one cant legally sell them to the public somehow with a health certificate, the days of $5000 a month trapping hogs is long long gone down here in south texas.Comment

Because I wormed any hog i have ever fed,thats the way one is susposed to do it anyways in the first place, they get rewormed and then start eating instead of the stressed out starved shell hogs i see getting abused I also sold them to a Southern Buyer In George West Texas to, have prices gone up or down or still the same 10 to 15 cents a pound. i always see the 25 cents for over 200 pounders, thats still $50 a head, are you a southern buyer dealer and getting a sweetheart deal or whats the deal? I bet the price you get is not the price a hunter/ranch seller gets so that dont wash, I guess you are your own station you can sell direct to southern and just have 25 cents a head in them for trapping corn. Could you post a sales receipt from a recent sale you made so we can see what they pay nowdays, then post one from a ranch/hunter seller to see if there is any difference in the price paid lol i have quit trapping since low pay per pounds. Unless we get more money per pound its not worth it since hauling for me to market is more than they bring at Southern for me.
