11 people is typically a hole drill crew, it is possible they were on the floor trying to control the well at the time of the blow out. As this is typical to have all non essential personnel off the floor in a well contol situation and the drill crew on tour is essential. What gets me is all the B.P. employees are acounted for and I know at least one company rep is required to stay on the floor during these situations.

My godfather just called me and said he is headed to Houma, LA right now. He works for BP and siad they are putting together a team to figure out what they need to do next and how this whole incident happened. He said the saving grace as of right now is that the well has actually shut itself off. He's been watching live feed from Houston of what the ROV's are doing down there 3000 feet under water. The technology they have is unreal.

Sad deal. Prayers for all the people that were on this rig when it happend. While I am not involved on the drilling side, I have been involved in building and maintaining these things and its mind bogeling. After the Piper Alpha, the industry learned a whole lot and I think that it helped save lives in this instance. While its a horibbel way to do it, we shall learn from this to.

Take it for what it is worth but a friend of mines buddy was on deck 30 seconds before the explosion. He said when he walked off deck there was still around a dozen men or so on deck. After he got of deck he heard the explosion. He said there is no way possible any of them made it off of there alive.

The guys on the floor don't really know everything that's going on. the floorhands are there to *work*... you have the driller which may see a little more, and then additional personel... mud hands, mud loggers, MWD hands, casing hands, etc..
there is a lot of information flying around right now... God only knows what is correct and what isn't. Accidents like this hit home for a lot of people in this area, since this is a key industry for texas.
