Nine year old sons first turkey

The wife and I took our youngest son turkey hunting this weekend. It was an adventure to say the least. When we got to the ranch on Saturday morning, I didn't know if we were going to get rained out all weekend or not but knew we wanted to give it a shot between storms so since it wasn't raining we headed out. We got on two gobblers early that morning but they had four hens with them that didn't like the competition so we all know how that went. We relocated and had another gobbler coming in pretty good and then a hen cut us off and he started to follow her at about 75 yards out. I was sick but hung in there and called the gobbler off the hen. He was coming and coming good. When he got to 60 yards the bottom dropped out of the sky and he would rather find a dryer place than where we were so he just turned and walked away. We gave it a break for a while and grabbed some lunch. That afternoon we had several gobble at the first call only to never gobble again until finally the sun popped out. Had a gobbler immediately double gobble at us. We were on opposite side of a crossfence from him and didn't want my son to have to shoot through the fence so we got through a gate and called once more. The gobbler had come from about 400 yards to 200 in less than a minute. I tried to get us ten yards closer and while my wife was getting positioned he showed up at 40 yards and we were busted. Since we had walked about 7 miles we were pretty tired and the skies were starting to look less than favorable so we headed back at 6 to get cleaned up and grab dinner. Good thing we did cause before we could get back to the cabin it began to pour. We ran to Dripping Springs for dinner and back to the ranch where we saw two more gobblers going to roost and two groups of piggies. Yesterday morning we decided to hunt closer to the cabin since I kind of overslept. We got on a canyon rim and listened for some gobblers. Seemed to be a couple on the roost to our north so we head that way and set up at the bottom of the only road going down into the canyon. After getting four gobblers fired up one flew down about 600 yards from us and started running our way. As good as that sounds there was a very large creek between us with an island of dirt between two arms of the creek. The gobbler flew to the island and started strutting. I called on more time and the bird flew the other side of the creek and was heading our way. Once he got to 20 yards I told Grayson to take him and it seemed like an eternity but he finally made the shot and the gobbler fell to the ground. I was ecstatic. His first gobbler had a 10 inch beard and weighed 22 pounds. Not much for spurs but I didn't really care.Hope this wasn't too long of a read. Can't seem to post pics or I would. Some help maybe.

Still can't figure out how it didn't have spurs but ten inch beard and full fan.
