DU's / NRA's / commemoratives in general can be hit or miss...more miss than hit in my experience and your driver is finding that particular collector.
Price usually inches ahead of standard nib pricing. You have two nice pieces regardless, especially for the 20ga if it was a shooter. I have always found the 12ga 686 to be fierce in recoil.
