Hog trapping-how do you do it?

I've had it with the pigs tearing up my feeder. Big ol' pig knocked down my feeder again the other night and I spent most of yesterday afternoon fixing it. I've tried setting up on him, but he usually comes in late at night and not on a regular basis. Time to trap and kill them. I'm gonna use soured corn, but have a few questions.

    1. How much beer and corn do you use for souring? I'm gonna use a 5 gallon bucket.
    2. Do you pour it on the ground in the trap or use a garbage can lid?
    3. Do you stake down the trap or leave it free?

Any pics of your setups would help. Thanks

Put hog panel around your feeder, that's what we did to keep them from tearing them up. I think we placed 8 panels per feeder and T-Post at each connection. We even placed our camera's on the inside of the panel's to get close ups. Everything works well. Of course then we had to keep those pesky coons off and put PVC pipe on each of the legs and coded them with axle grease.

5 gal of corn is not going to last very long...it will take a couple of weeks at least to make the corn sour. Don't worry about wasting beer, just corn, water and hot weather will work....just plane old corn will also do the job to bring in hogs....put some on the outside of the trap and then put corn in the back of the trap....for one or two times you will use the 5 gal of sour corn...if you have a strong trap with a bottom then you don't need to worry about tieing it down, no bottom tie it down really well

Dip some corn out of one of the ranch tanks, a creek, or a hog wallow. Add it to the corn/water mix and it'll sour real fast. And, don't use corn, use milo--smaller kernels take the pigs longer to eat.

You can also add a package of baker's yeast to get the mix cooking.

However, I've had just as much luck with dry corn out of the sack.

Just plain corn works fine, if the hogs are already coming there's no need to use sour corn. We all always bait the trap and tie it open for a couple days to get them used to coming in and out of the trap. When they start cleaning up all the corn every day, them set the trap and you'll catch some on the first setting. Let us know how you do.

I have had great success with breaking a few cantaloupes up and throwing them over the corn in the trap...15 hogs have been trapped so far.
