you can surely hit a pig standing still if you empty the clip at him real fast lol....i have never shot one thats been very accurate...but boy are they fun to gun down pigs and coyotes out of a high rack lol.
I was shot at a 18x18 (rough estimate) rock lasered at 292 yds with a cheap 4x powered scope. I was aiming about 3 inches under the top of the rock, so about 2/3's up the middle of the rock. 3 shots in a row produced a white cloud... Had 4 buddy's with me and they were quite impressed with the SKS. AS was I!!
first time I shot mine, I killed a bobcat shot right behind the shoulders where I was aiming at 162 yards... everyone told me that I was just lucky, and that's probably true, but later shooting it at targets, I could keep a 2" group at 100 yards with the standard open blade and notch iron sights that come standard on them. It's no tack driver, but it will certainly get the job done.
Ours is Chinese made model so it may be even worse than othersbut it shoots about a 3 foot group at 100 yds... but its reallly fun to shoot lol. I know try an AR15 or AR10 if you want something a little more accurate and semi.
I think pattern would be a better term then group when it comes to SKS. 2" at 100 is probably the best you could hope for out of mast. I have several and none were accurate IMO.

Oh, I'd love to have an AR. I'd love to have lots of things though. Just not ready to pop a grand on a truck gun right now.

Any of them that I have ever taken to the range have been far better than this....but as stated in other posts, these are military weapons designed to function under adverse conditions of mud,sand,water,dirt...and just spit out the rounds in the general direction of the target..If you want a really accurate weapon, take any of the factory guns and send one to Hill Country Rifles to be accurised,or buy a Weatherby MOA and be done with it...those Weatherbys ars awesome...and if you figure it out ,not that expensive...no experimenting,it's all done at the factory.
accuracy and sks do not belong in the same paragraph let alone sentence!
once in awhile someone gets a strange one that shoots in a stright line,, most of the time they are just a lot of fun and go bang pretty regular
Have shot several Russian and Yugo SKS variations and the best Russian will shoot 2" with Wolf HP and the Yugo will do about 4" with anything . Not too shabby for the reliability you get with this type of gun.
