Dang Bobby! I wish you'd not do this thang! BUT... if you must, I'll be the camera man... Next trip to Del Rio, we'll go find you a snake... I know where some live. The "Rick" brothers are planning another run weekend after next... might be a good time. Rick O's son in law videoed him catching one on the wetback road just down from the gate a couple years ago... Trouble is, we never seem to find any little ones on the ranch... they're always those 6 footers... I've done it, but don't think I'd care to do it again. It is much easier to club 'em or something and then pick them up and put 'em in a corn sack to save for the taxidermist... actually have a fine specimin in the freezer now... right beside the "redhead" I got last year... need to go see Jimmy.
I've done it several times with Rattle snakes, coral snakes and copperheads, but not with a water moccosin...YET. But I have got to say that if your not extremely careful, YOU WILL GET BIT! Get a stick or a pair of tongs (I have a pair if you want to borrow them) and get the snake pinned down. Then take a very firm grip behind the head. Making sure that your fingertips are right up against his head. He is going to squirm and try and roll around to bite you, so you have to grab the rest of his body and control it. I usually put the body under my arm pit. The more agitated he gets the more he will try and twist in your hands and try and bite you. Be careful. Call me or send me a PM if you want to borrow my grabber.

Well, heck. It sounds like picking up the snake is the easy part. How the heck do you put 'em down without them biting you? Especially if they are squirming around and you got his body under your arm pit?
Just let your buddy catch it for you and then ask him to let you hold the snake. That way you get a feel for it first. That might get the tickle out of you.
I have a buddy that used to catch them often on the lease. He has just about quit because he says as he gets older the snakes seem to be getting quicker.
