Took some persuading but I got it closed and then got the gun apart. This is not a brand new gun but it is new to me and it looked VERY dry so I worked in some Rem oil and things now seem to be functioning normally. I test fire tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for all the tips!

I was told by two military buddies to pull the buffer and buffer spring out periodically and clean them and the buffer tube well, then put some oil on the spring. Probably not your problem, but I don't see how it would hurt.

now that I'm off the Blackberry and can actually type I'll try to answer some of your questions.

At the time of the problem we were shooting PMC 55g FMJ.

I had put 15 rounds through it and I was then watching my son shoot it; on his 13th or 14th round it hung open without us knowing and he just got a click on the next pull of the trigger. The bolt was hung open, the charging handle moved freely back and forth but had no tension to push its self forward.

When I got home I folded a towel 4-5 times and gently dropped it on the flash suppressor until the bolt was closed far enough that I could tear the gun down and then I had to do some strategic pushing and prying to get the bolt out. I found nothing that looked out of the ordinary so I oiled it pretty good and worked it back and forth now with a standard amount of effort so I wiped off the excess oil and completely re-assembled the gun and it functions like new.

We will see tomorrow with some rounds down range!

NEVER OIL THE SPRING OR BUFFER>>>>>NEVER NEVER NEVER.... that will cause dust build up and will cause a malfuntion.....

BBoswell, run the weapon with your bolt well lubed..

Thanks for the info Tuff, good to know! Luckily I hadn't done it yet because I haven't taken the weapon apart lately since it hasn't been fired in a while.

Is there a tactical ring on the buffe tube? This same thing happened to me when i added mine (tactical ring to the buffe tube for a taqctical sling). The detent spring that holds the ring poped up and jamed so i had to take it apart and reset it by screing the buffer tube in more. Might want to check that out also.

Tuff is correct. The buffer, spring and tube need to be dry and spotless!

The BCG on the other hand likes to run wet from my experiences......which were long ago. Be generous with the Rem Oil. Make sure you field strip the BCG and clean it of build-up. Also check the extractor to make sure you are runnin an M4 spring and that your striker is properly staked. It may have come loose and hung up.
