    Above Ground Pool

What is your advice on above ground pools? Does anyone have one? I am really up in the air on this and need some pros and cons. We want a pool but I am looking at rebuilding in the future also so I am not sure if I want to put 30K in the ground???? Thanks for all input.

We do the easy-set, soft sided pool every year. Set it up when it gets hot enough, maintain it through the summer, take it down and put it away when it cools off. If it gets a hole or something, throw it away and buy another one.

Sounds good, but can you vacuum it?

We had a 24' round. We enjoyed it very much. Up keep is about the same as any pool, chemicals once a week and keeping it clean. I had the sweeper that hooks up to the skimmer basket and it vacums itself. We had the DE filter and its the only way to go. About every other month I just pull the grids out, hose them off, reinstall and add more DE powder. A bag of DE powder would last me about 2 years. Once my son grew up and we quit using it much, I just drained it and took it down. No hole in the ground. It just left a nice flat area for a cabana and hot tub.

The beauty of an above ground pool is you can just take it down when you get tired of it.

Ours has a "vaccum" of sorts that hooks up to a garden hose, and it gets any larger debris that settles to the bottom of the pool.
I have found that if you skim it daily, and use it (keep it stirred up good), the filter does a pretty good job of keeping it clean.
Oh, and you have to do the chemicals, just like any other pool.

We have an above ground pool for now. We plan on rebuilding in a couple of more years and probably won't have another pool, above or inground. I think above ground is a great way to go first time. That way you know if you want one long term w/o spending $25K+. The pool was about 3 years old when we bought this place 4 years ago. It looks to me that the above ground will last 10 or more years. We have a salt pool and sand filter. It is a 14000 gallon pool, which is as large as many of the inground pools. Very easy to remove when/if you decide you no longer want a pool. AG don't have as much problems with leaves as inground.

Biggest con is the appearence. You have to build your deck up and around the pool, so they are not as nice looking as an inground.

First ask yourself if it would fit in your neighborhood. Are others already there? Some neighborhoods and HOA's frown on them. Ya don't wanna rile up the neighbors.

Two other pros for above ground is they don't change your tax value, and they are not as expensive on your homeowners.

My insurance for a million in coverage is only 30.00 a year.

When I first moved in our neighborhood I told the president of our HOA I was planning on putting in an above ground pool - in the front yard. The look on his face was priceless I would agree with the way you are thinking. I know alot of people who spent a fortune on a pool that is rarely or ever used after the first few years - but the upkeep costs never go away.

Well depending on how dirty your pool is, it may work fine. My son and some of his friends decided during the winter time that it might be cool to throw some of the sand from around the pool IN the pool. While it did seem to pick stuff up very well, it was blowing a lot of it back in the pool. Then the flimsy *** hose that came with it started collapsing on me so I kept losing prime on the pump. I'm off to Walmart tomorrow to buy some more filters and a better hose.

I guess what can you expect for $45.
