Where can I find grass carp to use in my stock tank?

We are looking to buy a few carp to help keep the tank clean. Does any one know of a place to purchase them near Uvalde/San Antonio?

Very strictly regulated, even the sterile ones. We had some put in one of our ponds that was getting choked out. Someone certified from the state came out, took a look and gave us a permit for six. Dang things were 12 inches when we got them and probably 24 inches six months later...it has been several years since we got them but they are probably 30-40 lbs now.

Oh yea, and the pond cleared up good.

Thanks for the information! I had no idea it was regulated.

Don't let that scare you. Contact TPWD and they will help you.

          Have you considered tilapia instead?

I think you still need a permit, even for triploids......

Will echo what Jeff said, my lease owner put some in and it decimated the pond of any vegetation, which really threw off the balance of the crappie and bass..they will look and see if there is any chance of your ponds overflowing and running off into public waters..if you use your pond for fishing or waterfowl hunting you might want to reconsider introducing the carp

Absolutely they will help. Actually, once we figured out the process it went easy. Just remembered we got a permit for six but only bought four...

Like said above contact TPWD. We got some years ago for our pond and had to get a permit from the state for them not sure if anything has changed this was 15yrs ago.

It's a painless process, do a seach and contact the TPWD personal in your area. I think they were $10 a piece when I bought mine. the permit is good for 5 years.
