some collars only pulse or shock after so many barks, if you have a really smart dog they figure it out. my aunt's corgi did its kinda funny but it slowed down the barking

My lab does the same. Yep, the bark collar works real good. Kinda funny to watch while they figure it out.

Does it condition your dog to not bark or do you have to keep it on 'em to remain efficient?

For mine I've got to leave it on her. She knows when the batteries die and starts up again.

Checkers would bark b/c she was lonely. After 7 years of being my constant companion and going to constantly being alone, I could understand. I got the citranella spray no-bark collar. It worked great, so good she quit, and started a new bad habits. Getting another aussie finally did the trick!
The problem with my collar is they can figure out that they can bark until it runs empty, and then there is no more spray.

Water Dog by Wolters. Book or video. It takes about 3-4 nights to get 'em trained. When they bark Just say hush. The next time hush then squeeze the snout. The next time increase the pressure... etc. If they have half a brain they get conditioned to the voice command and the resulting pressure after they bark. They will figure out what you want just like sit or heal. It is a pain for the first few nights but they catch on and the reward is so sweet. I have trained a couple of labs that were head strong. They got it. It just takes a little time. Good luck. There are no bad dogs just bad owners...

The bark collar I had on my Chocolate worked wonders. I put it on him pretty young because he would sit outside and bark and bark because he was lonely and wanted me to come out and play...fine, but not at 3 am. The first time he barked with the collar on, he yelped, and that caused another shock, then he cried for a minute or two and never barked again unless provoked. I left the collar on him for a few months, but he eventually tore it up (how I'm not sure). After it came apart, I just tossed it in the drawer and have since lost it. Never needed it again. He would bark occasionally, but only when there was reason to bark, like someone coming on the property.

have not tried the collar but would put a muzzle on my dog. It worked great, just wouldn't want to do it with the weather getting warmer. My dog was a house dog so the heat didn't matter much. She would bark her head off when ever we left her alone. Never had a problem with the muzzle. Maybe you could train your dog that when they barked, it was put on as punishment. Bet the collar would be a better idea though. Just wanted to ramble a bit.
