    why?

Ok, why would we, the USA, want to develop fighter planes that run on biofuel?

um....do the greenies have a little bit too much pull?

what is the thought process here?

on top of that...after the years and years of bashing big oil and not using our own natural resources...why is the big 0 now opening up the gulf and Alaskan coastline for oil extraction?

Uh, I'm in the business and this is the first I've heard of this. Tell me more.

not sure which business you are referring to but I just saw 0 on his morning press conference with an F18 or F15, can't remember...anyway, he was appreciating himself as he talked about the biofuel capabilities...

as far as the opening the gulf and Alaskan coast for oil development, it has been bantered around for a while, there was a link on Drudge yesterday, but now I am hearing that is a supposed bone that is going to be thrown out to try and get republican votes on an impending 'climate change' bill....God help us.....

I guess I remembered a little variables incorrectly:

yes, Virginia, he rejected Alaskan proposals....

The Air Force has been working on this for a long time. Trying to get a cleaner burning fuel.

Thanks for the 411. Yeah, I'm in the fighter aircraft world. Bio fuel is so stupid. There is only one motor ever designed to run on bio and that's a diesel. I try not to even run bio in my truck. Unless it's some new kind of bio I just don't see how it can be viable.

Almost all Military engines will run on multi fuels. You never know what you will get under combat conditions. My old UH-1H would burn some nasty crap. It’s PR garbage. If it will burn and it will start a turbine will burn it,,,,, most of the time.

the angle I was coming from was from a performance angle...is there an upside?

If it were me, I would not cut any corners when it came to fighter pilots....that's like coming up with an environmentally safe nuke....<Stewie voice> say whaaaa? </Stewie voice>

                      Are you talking about this?

If so, then I'm all for it. For one, it's a company based out of Houston that's developing this new biofuel - so that benefits Texas. Secondly, it supposedly produces a cleaner burning fuel. Thirdly, we've got plenty of coal reserves and plant stalks (biomass) to help make it succeed. And fourthly and most importantly for me at least, it should theoretically help reduce our dependence on foreign oil and keep more of our hard-earned money here in our country, rather than transfering more of our wealth to oil-rich countries that hate us.

The U.S. has been blessed with massive amounts of coal reserves. Call me an ethnocentric, patriotic American, but if this process actually works (and I hope it does), we could tell our oil-rich enemies to go choke on their own oil for all I care.

Frankley I don't give a rip about clean when it comes to our national defense. I want reliable, dirty or not.
Don't fix it if it aint broke.

hmmm domestic fuel for our jets that meets performance standards?

It makes too much sense for some. Some people won't be happy until they swim in their own swill.

When did the Hotel models come out?
I crewed Echos back in the 60's.

Sorry 'bout wandering off-topic a little, just curious.

                              I know why...

So we can fly eco friendly en route to nuke someone.
