    another stupid question - Taxis?

Ok, I am a bit embarrased to admit this, but when my shoulder mount for my antelope I arrowed arrives from the taxi next week, I have no idea how to hang him from the wall. This is my first big mount. Do I have to find a stud or is there a good anchor I can use in the sheetrock?

nail or screw in a stud should hold it just fine

normally the taxi will have something already installed on the back of the mount so you can hang it from a screw

Either a stud, or get one of those bigger screw-in type anchors. Get the kind that are rated for 75 lbs.

There should be some type of hanger, on the back of the mount that will allow you to hang it on a nail or a screw.

On the wall side of it, if you can hit a stud, a simple nail or screw will do just fine. I prefer screws because you can adjust it in and out to get the animal snug up against the wall. I always have drywall screws on hand and they seem to work for all kinds of tasks such as these. 1 5/8" seems like an oddball size, but it a common drywall screw length and it works well for any whitetail sized heads.

If you have to put the screw into just the drywall, you can still hang it but you've got to be VERY careful not to work the screw loose. It doesn't take much force to get the screw to pull out of the drywall. Usually, I'll put one of these type anchors into the drywall for a mount. You can get them at any home improvement store and the even the smallest ones are rated for 75 pounds.

You screw it into the wall, with the same phillips bit, in your drill, then a screw goes into the center of it. They usually come with matched screws.

I use the picture hanging nails that are rated for 50 or 75 pounds, they have been holding one of my whitetail shoulder mounts for 6 or 7 years without any issues.

Those anchors above are called Ez anchors or Zip INS. If you have to ask for them.

Be berry berry careful with those plastic inserts. If you have a regular type shoulder mount you will probably be OK. I had a big white tail wall pedestal pull one out of the sheet rock and I thought I was going to ......... have to change my pants!!! Luckily the mount had no damage, but waking me up when it crashed at 2:00 AM was fun!!
Do not over tighten these insert when you screw them in, you can crack them or even twist them off. Keep the screw sticking out to the minimum to get the mount hung. Check the anchor ever day or so after you hang your mount for a couple of weeks to make sure it is not pulling out.
One more thing...... make sure you have a good hanger on your mount. One like the top two on this page are good ones.

One like these in the upper right group...other than maybe the A or J..... needs to be replaced, in my opinion.

better yet biggest problem I see with mounts is that eyes aren't level to the floor. Forget the brisket, ears, antlers etc, THE EYES SHOULD BE LEVEL (unless it's some weird pose)

                        get the metal ones!

Stud Solvers -- they work even if you do hit a stud.....and they are reusable

I try for a stud but if there isn't one then I like these Gorilla Monkey Hooks. Rated at 50 & 75 lbs. They are easy and fast to install but only leave a small hole behind in the drywall.

I've used these also. They are better than the plastic ones.

When we built our new house last year, I blocked the walls in the game room. Solid. I don't have to find a stud, or use anchors.
