Not necessarily going out of business, just closing the Conn. plant. Probably shifting production to the home plant in NC or to other facilities.

Marlin Firearms, now owned by Remington Arms (part of Cerberus Capital Management's Freedom Group), is going to shut down its North Haven, Connecticut manufacturing facility. This marks the end of a legendary period of gun-making in New England.

With much sarcasm in my voice. "Where is their stimulus package". Sorry to read this it is a true american icon. The lever gun is gonna be missed.

What a shame! I have a Marlin model 60 22LR given to me by my grandfather and a Marlin 39A 22 LR dated to 1946. Both guns are tack drivers. The 39A was the first gun my grampa bought after he got home from WWII and he taught me and my uncle to shoot with it. It will go to my boys when they are old enough. I was taught to shoot with it almost 30 years ago.

Yea I think it was more of where they were located. I think they have like said earlier shifted to another plant that is in a better area. Also gun sales have gone up all but lever action guns which they make most of.

Not just the lever gun, but their new bolt action guns seem to fly off the shelf at Academy.

tough news. It'd be nice to see someone buy them out.

I'm pretty sure that's the case. Big Green owns a lot of companies and could easily switch the manufacture to Bushmaster, H&R or Remington plants.

I bought a Marlin 336 30-30 when I was about 13 years old. Mowed lawns to get enough money to buy it so I would not have to use my Dad's 308. Thats been many years ago and its looks brand new still....

thats to bad. my first rifle was the 60-60 .22 payed the grand total of fifty dollars. would put a round thru the opening of a coke can at 100 yards.
lets see. if ATT must pay out one billion to cover the cost of its workers. do you think that the new health care bill had anything to do with this?

                              Sweet! I guess my pre-64 (1963) 336SC in 30-30 will become a heavily overpriced collector's item now!....

Seriously, it looks like they're just shutting the manufacturing plant in Connecticut down and moving it elsewhere.......NC or NY State have been rumored. Apparently the folks in CT don't foster a friendly business environment.......and Marlin is taking their ball and leaving........good for Marlin........I do feel sympathy for the workers that will be without jobs, though.
