My Father & I are heading out Wednesday for our annual Amistad trip. We have been making this trip for the last 13 or 14 years. Last year was a somewhat of a bust for us. We caught a few fish in the 5-6 pound range, but with little to no consistency. For the first time that I know of the water levels were above the spill way and the bass were pretty tough to figure out. We typically focus in on the deeper spawning and pre-spwaning areas. Last years bite was really soft and patterns were just off. We spend a lot, if not most of our time in San Pedro. We have had a lot of success in the previous years in that area, minus last year. I was wondering if anyone has been to the lake recently and if you would be willing to divulge any info....

Headed down Thursday night for 6 days of practice before the Open. Right now you can go shallow and look at all the fish you want. The better fish are coming out of 12-15 ft but with the wind it will be hard to see them.
The fish are done spawning for the most part up the river. Tule, Zorro and Cabello (sp) are hot spots right now if you can find grass.
Evans and California will be crowded but I'm going to force my way in there just to see what I can catch. In San Pedro, I would back out and fish the humps, points and road beds.
Good luck and maybe we will run into each other on the water.

Yeah, my plan is to hit the deeper structure right of the creeks.... I'll be fishing for the one fish, not a boat full of 3-5 pounders. I was thinking 12-25 ft. I'll probe some beds a little, but I'm after the deeper hydrilla. I'm hoping for a little wind, looking to work some bigger swim baits if able.
What rig are you running? I'll keep an eye out for you during the week.

Hey, I had to put in my time also.... Back when I was in school me and a buddy would fish Gibbons Creek. If you haven't ever been, I highly recommend a trip. Check schedules before you go.... I remember them closing the gates to the launch at odd times. Big Bass in those waters for sure!
