We've never seen one jaquarundi in 25 years at our place in Dimmit county. We have seen several mountain lions and a few ocelots. This year alone we saw 2 cub mountain lions and one ocelot. We caught one mountain lion in a snare 7yrs ago and he is mounted in the house.
If you went jaguarundi hunting, your odds would be out of sight. The two I've seen were completely by accident but I knew immediately what they were. Low to the ground, muscular even chunky body. Head seems out of proportion, short pointed ears....small in proprtion to head.
As recently as 2004 the last confirmed sighting of a Jaguarundi in Texas was over 10 years old making it pre-1994. And it was in the LRGV. I assure you if you reported seeing one to TPWD anywhere north of HWY 59 your sighting would be dismissed.
What are you talking about Jason, I see them all the time at my place. Oh wait, I think it is actually my overgrown barn cat I see all the time.
I have heard some old timers talk about seeing them down in South Texas, but I have never seen one myself. I think it would be cool to see one and get it on video.
I dont know if they were Jaqarundi or panthers, but as a kid around Mauriceville I saw 3 black cats that looked like small panthers. Short legs and tails as long as their bodies. I saw two together off Texla road and one another time about five miles away in Gist.

I saw one in Webb County in the area of the Callaghan ranch back in '63 or '64. My uncle showed it to me and said "take a good look....you may never see one again. I've been in this country over 50 years and that's just the second one I've seen."
I saw another one in Lincoln County NM in 2006. No mistaking what it was. My thought was "I'm even with you!" (He passed away in '75....had been a game warden, Webb County deputy, Rancher)
