They are cool to shoot under certain circumstances and I have done it before.....

They will decrease your barrel life but I still shoot them through mine.

I accidentally bought a box one time and they shot fine(I think it was a black box with white letters), I never had any problems but you can easily start a fire if its really dry.

In all honesty most people will never shoot enough to to wear the lands/grooves down enough to warrant barrel replacement.
