    NEED HELP! - Bullet Wobble

I took my new 6.8SPC AR (16" barrel w/1:10 twist) to the range today and sighted it in. Took 4 shells to get it sighted in at 50 yards. So i moved out to 100yds and noticed that I couldn't get it to group. I noticed that some of the bullets were tearing the paper and it pointed to some wobble past 50yds. I shot two different types of ammo, the Hornady Vmax in 110gr and the SSA Barnes *** in 110gr. The SSA bullets did a little better with 1 out of every 4 flying strange. But I still couldn't get the group I wanted.

Not sure what is causing this: bullet weight, messed up barrel or what. Anyone have a clue?

    Thanks!

    Try bigger fletching.
If I didn't think my opinion was right, then it wouldn't be my opinion. So, any other opinion must be wrong, therefore stupid.

6.8 has definitely been shown to work better with 1:11 and 1:12 twist from what i am reading. More grooves seems to be bad as well. What barrel are you using?

did your targets look like this ?

if so, that is known as "key holing"

barrel twist , or messed up crown is the likely cause

were you shooting factory or hand rolled ammo ?

maybe the "crimp" or bullet seating tension is not enough ????

Not that bad, but didn't make a perfect hole.

                        Uh... I know bows

In other words, I have no clue other than 110 gr bullet like I stated before.

But I tell ya, at 50 yds, they better watch out cuz I'll shoot their eyes out of their heads

Tommy, this is the upper my dad bought for me:

That's a relatively fast twist, and a 110-gr bullet is short for caliber. Try some heavier bullets or some Barnes, which are longer for weight.

Shot the Barnes, better, but still bad.

The highest load I can buy is 115gr, I am already shooting 110gr, doesn't seem like 5gr is going to do much.

I read that the wobble happens because you are shooting too heavy of a bullet, is this incorrect?

Surprisingly, i have been reading that the heavier bullets and faster twist rates are doing what youre experiencing in the 6.8 chambering. im about to build my own, so i am reading everything i can before buying. back down to 100gr, and the guy from Wilson combat shoots 85gr very effectively on hogs in his upper.
