Bad Person or Just Bein' Real?

Back (a really long time ago) when I was a teenager, my buddy and I would go to the Austin city dump and shoot target arrows at feral cats. We killed a bunch.

Recently there has been a plethora of media attention to bad actors (read: convicted criminals) having done similar stuff early in their lives, and as such, many psychological profiles indicating early prediction of bad behavior as an adult.

Well, neither of us is (for the present, at least) a convicted criminal. My buddy went on to be a successful cardiologist in Dallas (after having won the amateur freestyle NFAA championship in Crystal Springs, ARk., in 1963). For myself, well, let's just leave that unsaid... but still unconvicted.

So my question is as stated above: are we bad people or not?

I'm staying away from this one...I'm not judging, as I don't see what you did as BAD. Just be prepared to get slammed here by some holier than thou types.

I hope not because we used to shoot crows at the dump when I was younger.

Not my style but I won't judge. I'm not sure what the difference is between that and smokin' a yote or a bob cat

Unless they're eating a snake, in which case you should wait until it's finished eating, before you shoot it!

Are you a bad person? I wouldn't begin to know. Based on only the little bit of info I have on your life(something you used to do a long time ago), I'd say you could have used better judgment(just my opinion) as that is not something I personally would care to do. But then again, who knows, maybe you were doing those cats a favor putting them out of their misery(if cats feel miserable at all) and perhaps you were doing the ecosystem a favor(it's documented that feral cats can be VERY damaging to the surrounding wildlife). What I'm getting at here is, there is no right or wrong answer. You know deep down inside whether you are a good person or not, and the life you live should reflect that. We are all sinners and have done things we are not proud of, but that doesn't necessarily make one a bad person...

                    Yall were kids!!!!
Heck we tried to steal a tank on Ft. Hood when we were younger, plus alot of other bad things. I consider myself a good person. Kids do dumb things, it's part of growing up.

I like cats. So I wouldnt shoot one with an arrow. But I have done alot of stupid crap when I was young. The only mistake I see is telling strangers on the internet.

Such a small event probably won't define a person.

your study sample is too small to exrtrapolate to any kind of hard conclusion

in short, you are statistically insignificant

If you sampled millions and they all became doctors or TBH'ers you might be on to something.

Tell ya what, cantex - a) I, too, love cats. Got my favorite one of all-time sittin' on my lap as I type, and b) If tellin' stories on myself is the worst I'll have done by the time I met the MAN, hey, I think I'll be ok.

Feral cats can be very hard on wildlife.
I wouldnt lose a bit of sleep over what you did.
