    D loop or not?

Ok im new at bowhunting but im obsessed with it i just upgraded to a diamond razor and the new one does not have a D loop yet. my last bow did not but my hubby put 1 on after that i was all over the place for about a month. very aggravating!!!! so im shooting good without one now and just got it yesterday....... Is it gonna tear up my string in the long run if i dont use one??? all tips and suggestiong welcome!

Yes shooting off the string will accelerate serving ware. If you re-serve on a regular schedule your string will last longer. The D loop will save the string and provide a better release and a release that is inline with the arrow shaft. Not sure why adding a loop would cause you to shoot all over the place. The common result is the opposite, groups get much better.

Oh, and Welcome to the Green Screen

Use a D- loop. It takes a lot of torque out of the string that would be there from your release. Just look at a full draw release on someone's D-loop, and see how much the D loop is twisted over. This torque or twist, is what is taken out of the atcual string.

Mary and I both shoot D-Loops. Our groups both improved once switching to one. Welcome!

Id be willing to bet that the reason you were not shooting as good with one is due to the fact that adding one to your string after you've been shooting without one added almost a 1/2 inch to your draw (depending on how big a loop your husband made) thus probably throwing off your draw length and your anchor points....alot of the time thats not taken into consideration. when I worked for gander mtn a few yrs back in their archery dept. I saw it numerous times......when you add one just bring it to your archery shop and have them shorten it up a hair.....odds are you will be right back to shooting more accurately!....good luck and I hope this helps!

Your not having a D loop on the string may have been part of the reason for not shooting tight groups, but I'd wager that you have some form/ shooting issues which need to be fixed too. The D loop is used by many shooters, but it is not a magical bullet. The best suggestion I have for anybody getting into archery and bowhunting is to take some lessons from an instructor through the archery shop where you bought your bow.

The plusses on a D loop are increased serving life, and a better release with each shot. The negatives are it changes you anchor point (or you need to shorten the draw length to keep the same anchor point), in a hunting situation with your heart pumping you need to 'find' the loop for clip on a release instead of just on your string, and if it is not put on correctly, or wears out and breaks, your hand pulling the arrow back will punch you in the face like you got hit in a boxing match.

Welcome to the green screen from a guy on the 'left' coast who is honored to have so many Texans as friends and hunting partners.

I switched to a "Gator" jaw release so I could get rid of the loop. Have not had any serving problems.

After a decade without I finally went with one, at first I had the same result as it took some getting used to but the end result is that I'm much more consistent and not at all worried about peep rotation. I'd go with the loop.
