    Pre-emergent am I too late?

I have a weed problem. I have some pre-emergent and fertilizer with weed control. Should I mow now and put out the pre-emergent and use the fertilizer with weed control after the grass starts to grow or do it all now.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Most horticulturalists don't recommend using the dual purpose stuff especially in the spring, since pre-emergents need to be applied way earlier than fertilizer to do any good.

It's time right NOW to put on your spring pre-emergent. This will eliminate grassburs and crabgrass this summer. I'd go buy a product that is ONLY pre-emergent. Save your dual stuff for mid-September and use it then, when you can apply both safely. You won't have as many (if any) weeds this time NEXT year.

Osceola is right, though. The stuff you have won't kill what's already growing. I'd hand pull it, or spray the broadleaf weeds with a broadleaf weedkiller, then mow it short. Apply fertilizer next month.

dont waste your money. i was at home depot today looking for weed control also. just went with a weed killer spray that you hook up to the water hose since my weeds are in full bloom. at least thats what the guy in the garden center told me. i just mowed the yard a little short then sprayed the killer.

Be careful if you have a St. Augustine lawn with what you spray on it right now. A lot of weed killers will retard the growth of it.

If you have bermuda grass you can spray the weeds and winter grass with roundup, but only if you have bermuda. Be careful when spraying st augustine some weed killers wont work with it, like Justin said. If you use round up, it will only kill what is green, so if you have any winter flowers just keep it away from them. You need to just use a pre emergent now and wait till next month to use fertilizer. Also put pre emergent and fertilizer in the fall.

I just scalped our yard last weekend and applied weed & feed. You need to get the weed prevention stuff out NOW, but the fertilizer can wait if you want for another 3-4 weeks. I do it all at once every spring and summer.
