    Duramax Problem???

When I work my truck harder than normal, it is blowing out antifreeze like it would out of the radiator on older trucks. The first time it happened, I thought the front seal on the transmission blew out? It ended up being the orange antifreeze. It is blowing out in front of the trans like a pressure relief radiator caps on older ones??? Any of you experienced this??? Thanks.

Freeze plug cracked? Don't know, just guessing what AF would be in that area

      ???

I would think if it were a freeze plug, it would leak more often than it does??? What are you asking about "AF", not sure what the abbreviation is? Thanks for giving me ideas, keep them coming.

I would think so too? Maybe just a hairline crack in it so it only leaks when it gets pressure up? "AF" is for antifreeze, sorry, got lazy

Just trying to think what is in that area that is in the AF circ loop? Maybe the back of the head gasket has a split and letting AF run down the bellhousing? Check your radiator / overflow cap, seems weird, but if you have a leak in a head gasket, the turbo pressure can overpressure the cooling system and force AF out of the cap. I learned that not too long ago, the hard way of course

I am by no means an expert, but have learned a thing or two from my glorious Powerstroke 6.0.

It has one of those half plastic radiators with a screw tight cap, it doesn't vent like the "real" radiators??? I wish I wouldn't have sold my '85 Ford 6.9!!! Hell, I could fix anything on it.

The only thing I can tell you is to get under the truck and try to track the leak down. That is a weird spot for it to be. When it does leak is the motor wet all over or just in one area? I would say first to follow all your af lines and see where they go. I have a duramax and havent had that problem yet and dont know a lot about em. Good luck and let us know what the problem is.

Happened to mine a few weeks ago. Ended up being the upper radiator hose. It rubs the connector box for when you need jumper cables. The hole was so small it only leaked when I would really get on it.

                    Mine's an 04 with 180k

                      Leak

I have crawled around under it, but I can't see a line??? I'll look again, but I don't think it's the upper hose either??? When it leaks, I can't even see any AF on the motor, can't see where it's coming from? Thanks.

What year is the truck? On the 04 lly motors they had a problem with overheating and blowing head gaskets. The overflow from the coolant bottle runs down the front passenger side and when it hits the ground will look like it's coming from the trans area, check it out.
Run the truck for about an hour before you go in for the night check the upper radiator hose about 6 to 8 hours later if it's still hard you could have a problem.

                          Problem

It's an '01 with 182K+ on it. Hope that's not the problem??? I'll do some more checking. Thanks.

You can get some dye and and put in the Coolant system let it run till it starts to leak then use a black light to trace were it is coming from i have done this on a few trucks and it worked great there was only one that it didn't it didn't help when i pulled a head gasket on my 01 z71 since the fluid went into the motor. You can get the dye at Autozone ,O'Reillys or napa its like 5 or 6 bucks but you will need a black light. Have fun and good luck

                              Finally found it!!!

I know this is a very old thread, but two weeks ago I finally found the problem!!! I am very happy to tell, it is a small 3/8" hose about 4 inches long, may be a cooler hose for the turbo??? Hell, I don't know, just very happy to find it. I have 196K on it now, hope it's on the way to Colorado this September!!! Again, thanks for all of your input.
