    Goin to Disney...need suggestions

Gonna take the kids to Disney (the one in Florida) this summer. Are there any neat places to stop between Houston and Orlando? We plan on driving to Destin the first day and getting a room. Then drive to Orlando the next day. I have heard the drive can be made in a day, but I will choke one or both of my kids if I am stuck in a car with them for that long!! So, I was lookin for something to do on the way.

    Let me hear whatcha got!

    National Museum-Naval Aviation

We are headed to Pensacola for Spring Break and plan on touring the Naval Aviation Museum. FIL (pilot for Lockheed) said it was really good museum.

Ha - Take lots of money! Seriously, stay in the park. It isn't much more but you are right there. The busses pick you up at the hotel and drop you off at the front of each part of the park.

And if you stay in the park, get a meal plan. We have gotten sit down service, a counter service, and several snacks a day. As os Christmas last year, they do not incorporate the tip into the meal anymore, and the sit down service is not worth the money. Get 2 counter service meals, and a snack a day, and you will be plenty full. Im a big boy, and it worked for me.

And, if you stay on property, you get extended hours, early on some, late on other parks. It make s the trip worth going, without the lines.

            Ride "SOARING"

And divert off of I-10 enough to go up to Tupelo Miss. to see ELvis' birthplace.

If you like old airplanes..... drive 20 miles south of Disney to Fantasy of Flight... Kermit
Weeks has a great private collection of planes... and they fly one in the collection
every day around 1pm I think.... you can also tour the restoration shop and warehouses.

Only place in the world I've seen almost 50 complete Rolls Royce Merlin engines from
P51's and P38's.... even has two of the few flyable GeeBee racers... very cool stuff

                YEP This......That place is awsome.....

We go to Disney every other year Skeeter..Its an arse whoopin but my wife and kids love it. My wife and her sister actually own stock in Disney....

In between Houston and Orlando?? Not so much.. After stopping in Destin one year, we have decided that is the place to stop and rest for the day. The drive from Destin to Orlando is pretty quick.

All the above is good advice...The last time we went, I got a free day and went over to the Nascar track in Orlando and did the Richard Petty Driving Experience...IT was freakin awesome...and a good way to get some man time to clear all the fairy’s and cartoon characters outa my head for a day..

My recommendations before going to Disney is to prepare beforehand...

Go out behind your house and stand there in the sun for 8 hours. Come back inside and take $500 out of your wallet and flush it down the toilet.

                  Repeat the next day.

That would be a a good practice run. If waiting in long lines and spending exorbitant amounts of money are your thing, then Disney is for you. It can be a fun place, but expect some frustrations.

Epcot: Fast Past "Soaring" then go immediately to "Test Track"

Fort Wilderness Campground: You MUST go to the "Hoopdy Doo Review"....it's a dinner show at Disney's campground (that many people don't know about). The show is hilarious and the food (all you can eat/drink...beer, wine, soft drink) is great. Very underrated

Whatever you do stay off the "It's a Small World" ride. That will scar you for life.

My honest and best suggestion is to figure out how much money you will take and triple it at least, it's a fun place but very frustrating at the same time with the crowds and so many idiots. I can honestly say I've never been on a trip and watched so much money vanish in such a short amount of time. Stay in the park, get the meal deal and good luck to ya!!!!!
