    Do you eat Antelope?

I am hopefully going to South Dakota this year on an Antelope hunter...

    Do you eat them?

    Oh, hail yes!

    Good stuff!

We had Syracuse fix up about a dozen that we brought back from a group hunt this past September.

Them bacon wrapped filets were like meat candy!

I wanted to. But the cooler we used had a bad seal and flies got into it.

Heard its good. Sure wished I could have tried it.

        x2!

See my avatar pic. We brought home 3 speed goats from our WY trip last year and I was really surprised at how good they were on the table. I had steaks, roasts, sausage, etc. mad and it was all good! I've heard that if you "run" them and then harvest a buck that they can be a little strong.

Good luck..and I think I'll break out a pack of Antelope slim jims since you brought this topic up!

I did not like the one that Ben shot and we cooked (fried backstrap) in camp, but everyone else did.

I liked the taste of the one I shot. The antelope in north Texas eat a lot of sage so the meat had a sage flavor that was really good.

              Antelope meat iis the BOMB!
We have put 6 in our freezer in the last 4 years. If you run them it WILL be gamey....but it is a GOOD meat with great texture...

A word to the wise...it is a VERY lean meat and if you want to make ground meat, etc. with it 10% beef tallow will do the trick and also help give it a milder flavor.

I took one in New Mexico. Shot him about 10am as he stood up out of his bed, cut him up, put on ice. Drove home the next day and packaged it. Didn't care for it, VERY gamey! Have heard a couple people say to let them hang if you can.

Not near as good as whitetail in my opinion, but still worth eating. I also think it has a lot to do with where you are hunting. If they have better stuff to graze on, they'll taste much better. We hunt in a very dry desert of New Mexico which I think has a lot to do with the gamey sage taste.

I agree with Ben. I've always heard about the sage taste...but

We ate our two Texas antelope that we shot and they were excellent. We keep them on ice for about a week and continually drained and re-iced them. We went on a whitetail hunt after killing the 'lope, so we didn't processed them for over a week. The meat was extremely red, but we ground both of our 'lope because we didn't have a lease that year for venison. I never was disappointed in any of the meals we made with it.

Absolutely sir, If I have WT or Antelope in front of while hunting? WT will live to see another days, I like Antelope meat for the lean of it. Everything about the Antp meat are tendery sweet and lean kind of meat. You will not be diappointed.

Shot one in montana a couple years ago. Didn't really care for it. It was real sage flavored meat.

Both of the ones I killed were excellent in every way.
