New Vizsla puppy... Can't wait for the end of March!

Only a few more weeks to go! In the next few weeks I have to puppy proof the backyard and house. Hope she's quick to house train!

This is the girl we picked out.

"Dog Pile" - Can you count em?

This guy was trying to get to Anna's hair, and he used the other puppy like a stepping stool.

Yeah... they are just as cute in real life

Wouldnt it be nice if it was still this easy to fall asleep

Great looking pups. I've always wanted one. Hunted quail behind my college room-mates Vizla. Awesome dog with nothing but natural talent.

Never thought I would get away from labs, but my next pup will be a viz...

t8, they are wonderful family / hunters. Very dedicated to their owners and require a light hand for training in general. They also do not shed or have that wet dog smell near as much as your other tradional hunter breeds.

We had a Vizsla when I was a kid, and he was a great dog. Excellent pointing/retrieving/versatile bird dog. My dad ended up selling him to a guy that did field trials, and he won several of them.

They really crave human attention and interaction. They can be pretty active and hyper too, so get ready for lots of energy. They would rather be in your lap than anywhere else on earth.

Great dogs - very beautiful. They look like rust-colored Weimaraners, only a little smaller than a Weim.

Thanks guys. They are some of the most versatile hunting dogs out there, and make exceptional house dogs also. One nick name is the "velco" vizsla because they will follow you everywhere and thrive on human attention. With regards to hunting, they are mostly for bird hunting of all types (upload, dove, duck, etc...) A co-worker has one and that is what led us on this track.

Did you yours from a specialized breeder? I just starting to research.

                    They are cool dogs!

My friend Ed Kellum had one that was absolutely amazing. Ed was in his late seventies and used to exercise the dog by running him alongside his truck in Dallas. They would do about six miles a day!!

Bird hunted behind that dog twice -- he was a driven hunter and a great companion to boot!

I wonder what one would do around a lacey?

Maybe some of that retreiving/pointing would rub off on them!

Congrats on the new pup!! She is a cutie!!

Rod, I would bet that a Vizsla would make an excellent tracking dog if he hung around a Lacey. I don't know if a Vizsla would make a good catch dog for hogs or not. Would depend on the individual temperament I guess. They have great noses though.

My Vizsla, Copper the Wonder Dog, tracked a guys deer out a the Grasslands without any training. Him and I were out quail hunting and came across a bow hunter. He asked if my dog tracked fur and I said that I didn't know. Put the dog on the blood trail, told him to hunt it up and about 5 minutes later we were standing at a dead deer.

I've got a Vizla/Lab cross that's 11 months old and she's a great all-around dog. The Vizla in her is very evident as she's about as hyper as they come. I wish I had time to train her for the dog competitions where they throw the dummy off the dock and see which one jumps the furthest, cause she can leap with the best of them. They do crave A TON of attention, so be forwarned that if you ignore her for even a day, they'll destroy anything you have in the yard, including sprinkler heads, soaker hoses, chairs, propane gas lines, plants and much more (from my experiences ).

Congrats on your soon to be new friend.
