    Welding in the rain

Never done it but doesn't sound like a bright idea. I need to get my stock trailer welded and waited till today to do it. This would be ill advised right? It just doesn't seem logical to mix 220 with water. Could any of you more experienced welders tell me if it's as dangerous as it sounds.

Water and electricity never mix. Even the humidity in the air couldn't be good for any sort of weld. Of course I have done it before. Not so much in the pouring down rain.

Be extra careful about using wet gloves to put wet electrodes in the stinger. Use DC welding processes only. Find ways to dryly insulate yourself from the weldment or the electrode while changing electrodes.

That says it all right there. It wont kill you, but it will shock the crap out of you if your gloves are wet. Try to keep your boots and gloves dry and it wont be too bad. If you have to weld something to the trailer, start your arc on the grounded trailer first then drag it over to the piece you are holding. Good luck.

Thats good advice too, 220 will kill you quick if you dont cover all your bases.

Back in 1968 I was on strike and got a job at Todd Shipyard. They put me in the bottom of a lay barge welding 2 inch pipe and standing in about 8 inches of water. You learn real quick not to put the rod in with wet gloves. I taped up a pair of channel locks and used that. had an illegal Mexican as a helper, he would just laugh when I'd scream. He quit when I told him to put the rod on the stinger

That settles it. Jamie can herd the calves to the sale like those Afgahn goat herders or borrow the neighbors trailer tomorrow.

I've gotten tingly just welding in a fog. Please don't do it Jim. No job needs doing that bad.

Never, never, never weld AC in wet conditions....DC can be done, but you will get shocked unless you takes precautions as prescribed above.....
