    nilgai hunting

i have gotten invited to kill a nilgai... thinking about killin one with my bow but dont know much about these animals... anyone have any experience on hunting them???

couple of threads on here lately! Try the search button and you should see plenty of thoughts. Being "invited" and actually getting one seems to be a HUGE difference from what guys are saying.

thats what we used....on this day the closest we got to them was ~100 to 150 yards. You would have to be there for several days to take one with a bow i'm sure.

10 times harder to hunt than what we expected

good luck getting one with your bow. I had a hard enough time getting one with a rifle. They are fun to hunt. Good luck.

Yeah unless you have a good 3-4 days of hunting you prolly won't get one with a bow. I would highly reccomend a high cal rifle and don't stop shooting till its down.

I bowhunted them this year for 4 days. I had nilgai within bow range every day but they are really spooky and amazingly quiet in the brush for their size. They move constantly and usually busted me before I knew they were there.

A nilgai would be a great bow trophy but if I only had a few days to get it done and killing one is important I would use a rifle.

Shot placement no matter what you use is paramount. I prefer a quartering to or quartering away shot to avoid those monster ribs that can stop a broadhead or bullet. The heart/lungs are fairly large and forward and a well placed shot just inside the front shoulder will put one down in short order. The hide is unbelievably tough so I would say a cut on contact broadhead is best because the name of this game is penetration. Good luck and as stated above take a rifle if you feel like you must bring one home. Good Luck!

They were a fun hunt, I shot one about 2 or 3 weeks ago and it was alot of fun. I only had a day and a half, so I shot mine with a gun.
