    Jon boat question??

Hey you boat gurus. Was thinking about a Jon boat for bow fishing. Wanted to mount some kind of deck on the front with tubing for lights. What do you guys think about it. Wanted to go about once a week. Would this work or would I needs a bass boat? The one that we are looking at is 12 ft. Would would be a reasonable price for one in good condition with a motor and acc. Thanks in advance. Have been a few times and wanted to get into it.

In my opinion 12 foot would be too small and unstable. I have a 16ft and I think it gets small in a hurry. You can build a deck out of anything, just make sure it is braced well, and watch where you mount it so that it does not crack the aluminum. Is the Tubing for the lights or a rail to keep from falling in? If fior the lights you will want those lown to keep the glare down. Try Tinboats.com,there is a ton of infpo there.

X2 on the 16'. I would not go any smaller, if you are wanting to build a deck on the front.

I would go as big as you can for stability. Wider is better since alot of your shots are over the side. We used a rail about thigh high just to remind you how close you were to falling off. We also had lights mounted low to the water. If you can, exhaust the generator under water, it will make far less noise and not drive you nuts all nught. There are many ways to do it, just do some internet searching for bowfishing rigs and you can get all the ideas you need.

Hey guys thanks for the info just going to buy a bass boat. Will try to keep you updated on the project as we go. Stability was a concern. Forgot about the v-hull when I posted this. A lot of research today and I think I saved some major head aches!!

A 12 foot will be too unstable. Start at 16'.
