My professor that I spoke of in my previous post builds a lot of kayak and boats. He is actually in the process with TPWD trying to start a summer program at several Texas lake and reservoirs to teach family boat building. Props to you that is an amazing yak!

WOW!!! Now that's a work of art!!! How long did it take to build, and how much?

500 hours and about $450.00. Wood composite boats are a lot tougher than people give them credit for. If I can't paddle around it I paddle over it. Rocks, gravel, stumps whatever. You can see the entire build thread here:

Sweeeeet Kayak. I'm a N.E. Texas boy that is jealous of all the clear rivers y'all have to paddle in Central and South Texas. Everything up this way is muddy. Maybe I can go on a trip with y'all in the spring.

DarrellS, that's a great looking boat! I'm starting to build one with my sons very, very soon (in a couple of weeks, I think). I'm thinking of doing a kayakfoundry self-design.

anybody up for an overnighter early summer/late spring? location doesnt matter to me as long as its within a few hrs, a weekend on the waters worth the drive, i sold my tarpon 160, still have my wifes mini x, plan on getting somehting midsize, about 12 foot specifically for camping and freshwater fishing i have a native mantaray 12 and may go back, does anyone paddle a ride 135? , my 160 was for the bays but we moved a little farther from the salt and wasnt using it as much.

I am trying to come up with a time frame for the get together. I am thinking that just setting a date in stone will be best and those that can make it will and those that can't wont. But that does not mean that we can't have another one soon after.
So, since I came up with this idea I will make the date the 2nd weekend in May 8th and 9th

fly- you do realize that its Mothers Day weekend. I could swing Saturday if the boys don't plan on a coastal trip with Mom. They usually take advantage of those type days to plan a trip for "Mom" but it always seems to be something they enjoy.
