Varmint gun: AR platform VS bolt? Which one?

Hey guys I have a small decision to make. I want a new varmint gun, but cant decide on an AR varmint or bolt action? Suggestions either way are wanted. I have never shot a AR/M4 style varmint gun. I am a LEO and have plaenty of time behind a tactical M4, and with bolt guns. Any suggestions are appreciated. By the way coyotes, foxes and hogs are intended prey. Maybe other game down the road for my young daughter.

had a bolt action..sold it as soon as I bought AR....just liked the idea of a quicker follow up shot.

x3 on the AR. its just about as accurate and again on the follow up shots.

If application calls for multiple targets with minimal time, then the auto is the way to go.

If you want something for a one shot one kill at especially at long distances, then a turn bolt in a 22-250 or 220 swift would be my choice.

Why make the difference between a "tactical" AR and a varmint gun? This past weekend I rolled a coyote at 475 yards with a 14" barrel Rock River .223 It's my LEO work gun.

I prefer to use my JP AR rifle with an 18" heavy barrel, but realistically I don't see a difference until past 500 yards between either rifle, other than the amazing JP trigger.

I'd definitely go the AR route. I'm selling my custom bolt .308 because I just don't shoot it enough anymore, the AR's are too much fun.

I like my ar15 for coyotes. It fits my method of 10-20 mile hikes. It carrys well along with my shotgun and pack. But it gets very dirty on the hikes and sometimes goes click when I need it the most. Also on many shots it just does not have the umph to put the coyote down.

I'm going to go with the more dependable bolt action next season.

i'd go ar for follow up shot and my 14.5 inch barrelled ar .223 will put em down way out there. If it don't then i just keep painting that dog and pulling the trigger.
