JTS and Thorson, thanks for those DIY plans. I will try them for sure, but I may need a bunch.

Davik, I like those...know where I can buy a thousand or so of them?

Thanks for the input on the Mosquito Magnet. Surely SOMEONE has one of them or another brand that actually works?

Careful Davik! Somebody's likely to have a problem with the ethics of using a leghold trap on mosquitoes!

Berendel, my brother has one and it has made very little if any difference. We have those big saltwater mosquitoes here on the coast that will absolutely tear you up if you are on the dock at sundown. I have surrounded myself with 4 Thermocells and they just tough it out and go for the jugular.

Never used a mosquito trap myself, but my father in-law made me a Bat House. He swears they work for mosquito control. He told me how and where to put up in back yard but never did cause I did'nt want a bunch of bats around my house. Especially after the Rabies cases that were reported around here. I will deal with the mosquito bite instead of the bat bite.

I have the Mosquito Magnet, and it works about as well as pink flamingos do. Go with the permethrin.

Leave the windows down on your truck overnight. I think this works well I screwed up and did it last night. This morning I bet there was 50 flying around in there with me. I pulled in the car wash and dropped .50 in the vacuum and got busy.

Didn't have time to read all of this, but you might put up a Martin (bird) house, or two. I hear they eat mosquitoes.

A permethrin product like Tengard will work good, spray in the shrubs, under porches, and brush around the house. There is also a product Mosquitoe Briquets that you put in standing water to kill the larva.

Well, dang! Nobody has had any luck with the larger traps? I was hoping to get at least some confirmation.

Thanks for the ideas. I do have a small propane hand held fogger that I will use on the bushes, but I was hoping the Magnet or Trap would work.

Keith, I have heard about the Martins for years, but I have recently read that it is a myth about them eating their weight in mosquitos. I actually have a martin house up, but they won't use it...too close to my trees, I think.

I was at the Home Depot tonight buying few things to combat flies.

I talked to a guy there who said the only way to reliably kill them is with permethrin (or something similar)

He did say that these mister systems with water that you can put up around your porch may help as they don't fly well in the water mist

They did have Thermacells on sale for 21.99 (green ones)
