    Tree Stump removal ?

Last Summer I cut down a huge Oak Tree that was dying in my front yard.
Had to do it before a wind storm blew it over into the House Etc.
NOW-- I need to get the Stump removed. I was told that they make something that you pour on the Stump to Break it down so it's easier to cut up and remove.
Besides using Dynamite- I'm open to any advice !!!

Stump grinding is the easiest unless you absolutely need it removed. they can grind it don to several inches below grounbd and you cover it up with dirt and you're done.

16 oz of ffff would work, but most feed or good hardware stores will carry a stump rot , drill a few holes and pour it in, but deisel and a match will work.. and if it ever quits raining ive got a couple to burn out,,, not going to use ffff, might wake the neighbors

stump grinding is definitely the fastest/best but you will have to pay for it...

You can drill and put the stump rot stuff on it or just use ordinary fertilizer and keep the holes filled...it will rot away in a couple of years where you can break it out...

              X2 Great advice cosmiccowboy.

Drill multiple holes as deep as you can with a large wood bit. Fill them with a granular fertilizer and be patient.

Pile some dead limbs on it and burn it.

You can rent a stump grinder. For just a few dollars more you can have someone come do it. Stump rot is an option, but it will take a long time(especially if it's a big tree).

fire is free. The hundred bucks to buy beer for you and buddies to sit around the fire and drink.

I personally would go the stump grinding method but if you want it all gone then get a backhoe and in about an hour the stump will be totally gone.

Don't know what you consider "big" but call a local tree service, work for us tree guys is slow right now and stump grinding is a rather cheap service. A good grinder will grind the stump completly out, and a rule of thumb for price is about 1.50 to 1.75 per inch. This is measured across the top of the stump where the root flare meets the grade. There is not much money in it but you need one to be a "Complete Tree Service".....TaDow

Stump Grinding may cost more upfront but no labor for you dealing with anything except leftover mulch. I'm having 1 done next week for $150. Stump is 3ft. tall and 20"wide. They will come in and be gone in 1 hr. top.
