    Gun shipping concern

Long story short....I have to have the new rifle I just bought my girlfriend last week sent in for repairs. The thing misfires on its own!

Regardless, after I spoke to Remington and the repairshop they use, I was told twice to just put it in a box and UPS it back to them.

My question is...is that legal??? I thought firearms had to go through an FFL to ship(from Nevada to Florida). Anybody have any suggestions? Should I just visit a local gunsmith here? The bolt assembly is lose, causing it to slip off the firing pin block.

I bet Remington's people know what is legal and what isn't regarding this...

they have to ship FFL when purchased or when transferring ownership, but not to send them for repair, you must tell ups what it is as they have certain regulations on it(ie no labels or tags saying it contains firearm)

Yes, it is legal. Transfer of firearm "ownership" must go through an FFL if it is out of state, according to state law. You are simply sending a defective piece of merchandise back to the factory.... who are under FFL status anyway. As gun manufacturers, they are covered under FFL.

Of course in Texas, you can do mail shipments of firearms to another resident of Texas without an FFL just as if it was a face to face deal.

Just researched this, and yes to all of the above. Matter of fact, dropped a rifle at USPS today (declared) for an intrastate transfer to another TBH'r.

... or I should say, you can "mail"/USPS long guns. Pistols have to go by contract carrier like UPS, FedX, etc.

i would do what they say and get it fixed for free instead of paying someone to fix it. make sure you insure it.

I had to send a pistol in for repairs and both times FedEx picked it up from me and delivered it back to me when the repairs were done.

If Remington said to return it to them, they know something a certified gunsmith does not know about the gun. It may be a unique problem or it may be a recalled gun, that your local gunsmith will just send to them anyway. By sending it to Rem, it will be cheaper for you. Although in this economy, if you can afford to, help out your local gunsmith with the "donation"

It is perfectly legal for you to ship a gun to remmy or a smith for repairs.

Go directly to the UPS hub and not one of the franchised stores as they may not accept it. On your descrition, put "Firearm for Repair"

Ship it to remmy insured for the full msrp value. Include a note with who you talked to and a return authorization # (if any) and your return address.

They will ship it back to your door...no need to go through an ffl for repairs.

Big green needs to make this right for you.

Every time I ship a gun I'm told to put "High Speed Hole Punch" as the description...

I had the same thing happen with a Winchester I have. I spoke with the rep. from Winchester at the Fall Classic at BPS and he gave me the address to ship it to.

I boxed it up, and put fragile all over the box. I insured it for the amount paid for the gun and mailed it off. I got it back about a week and a half later.

                            Remington should make it right.
