    Fishing Cabo

    TBH Braintrust,

I am taking the family to Cabo for a week in the middle of March. I want to fish while there. Do you guys have any guide reccomendations?, What fish can we expect to catch? Is March even a good moth for fishing? What should we look for in booking a guide what are the red flags?

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks

I have used Marlin Masters & Picante Sport Fishing in the past. Had a great time and caught striped marlin, dorado, and yellow tail.

You can rent a VW bug convertable - they are everywhere. I've never fished there in the spring (only early fall for Yellow fin and marlin) so I can't help you. Cabo Wabo and El Squid Roe if you get away without the kids. Be careful of the "free" activities - they will suck you into sitting through a seminar for a couple of hours to get $100.00 in free sports stuff (can you say ripoff).

I went scuba diving and parasailing while I wasnt misbehaving. You'll have no problem finding cool stuff to do.

I just wanted to add. The glass bottom boat rides would be fun for the kids and adults. They take you to the cabo arch, seal watching, etc.

March is a relatively slow month for fishing in Cabo but there should still be some striped marlin around...It probably won't be the classic trolling and surface sight fishing in March but rather bottom fishing with live bait on schoolie size stripes...

They do some 4 wheeler tours in Cabo that are pretty fun...IMHO the 1/2 day trips are plenty.

If you play golf they supposedly have some magnificent courses there.

You will be right at the end of whale watching season but that a lot of fun. We did a whale chasing/lunch/snorkeling trip one christmas on a big catamaran that my wife/family really enjoyed...

There is some good inshore fishing that time of year, some smaller schoolie roosters show up, and the sierras are inshore. Dorado are also present particularly on the cortez side. If I were you, I'd get out of cabo for a day or two and go over to the east cape you can rent an ATV and ride the beach for miles. There is a snorkeling deal off the east cape that's pretty cool. We swam in huge schools of jack cravelle, and on some pretty good reefs (apparently best in N. Pacific?). Also swam with sea lions, cool, but that didn't last long - it was along a big drop off, and I felt like shark bait the whole time.

                        We used this charter http://www.piscessportfishing.com/

They did a great job. Fishing was real good but we went in the summer.

My brother goes every year and he recommends Solmar Sport Fishing.

My wifde and I were there in November for our honeymoon and stayed at the Melia Cabo Real. We set up a trip through the hotel and had a good time. Caught several dorado and a tuna. We raised one marlin but didn't get a hook up. Picante sport fishing had a really nice fleet of boats and I think I would give them a call. I think you'll get a better deal going directly through them than anyone else. No matter what deal you get it will likely be cheaper than anywhere off the Texas coast. We went on an 8 hr trip and it was too long. You start fishing like 3 miles offshore and we didn't go more than 15 the whole trip. The sun got up during the day and the fish shut down. I think your money is better spent doing 2 days of 5 hour trips than 1 long day. You'll have to catch quite a few to make it worth paying to ship the fish back, otherwise you can pay one of the restaurants at the marina to cook them for you.
