1.Foot Joy/ Dry Joys -classics are built more like a dress shoe with lots of support, very rigid, very stable, if you ever play in Classics or Dry Joys its hard to play in anything else. There is a reason the pros play them and its not about endorsements

    2. Ecco- might be the best and most expensive out there but are very Euro styled and sized

    3. Nike- generally built like their cross trainers on a football shoe last, comfortable but the higher end TW shoes are just a version of FJ

    4. Mizuno - makes an excellent shoe but not for wide feet or people like me that wear an orthotic insert

    5. Adidas- very narrow built almost like a running shoe, very poor lateral stability

Great info. I have a wide foot and high arch - wear orthotic inserts. So are you saying that Foot Joys are better than Eccos? If they are Euro sized, does that mean that if I normally wear an 11 that I need to order a different size in Eccos?

I'm not too worried about the price. I'd rather spend a few more dollars, if necessary, to get a shoe that doesn't kill my feet by #5.

Even with all the funny looks I got, I always wore my Doc Martin Steel toes out there (Because I always forgot my golf shoes)

try the lightweight tennis shoe style. Golfsmith has a snake eye brand that is comfortable and very affordable around 40 bucks. This time of year they have a lot of closeouts and they have an outlet store on I-45 and 1960 in Houston that has a lot of great shoes discounted. I am in the club repair/custom fitting business. I also walk at least once a week and wear a brand called Bite (American Made). that I have had for four years, just change the spikes periodically.

If you're playin' out there at Maxwell or another Abilene-area coarse you might need your snake boots!!!

(Depends on how much time you're in the ruff)

Diamondback is a great course here. It got its name from all the snake dens they dug up during construction.

Oh, and I'm almost always in the fairway.

It doesn't matter WHICH fairway, does it?

Shane, go to that golf store over next to Beal Appliance and check out the FootJoy shoes they have the look more like tennis shoes with spikes on the bottom. I got a pair just before a qualifying tournament last year and they have SO comfortable. I think they were arond $100

That's what I'm gonna do, Codie. I can buy them online a little cheaper probably, but I want to try them on and make sure I get the right fit.

The ones I got are the white ones with the silver accents on them. They were brand new last summer, so they may or may not have them still. In college I strained through walking 18-36 holes a day with Footjoy Classics just for the LOOKS (tournament play) but I don't think I will ever own another pair other than these Footjoy Tennis Shoe types if they continue to make them

Yeah, I must be getting old, 'cause I care more about how shoes feel than what they look like these days.

I got a pair of the soft gel brown nikes. I could wear them everyday, golf or no golf.

yeah, I concur with the reattlesnakes. I've played Diamondback and did not look for balls after seeing the snake area signs. Great course though. I just built a set of clubs for a guy from abilene.
