In freezer, then out refreeze or no?

What is the general consensus, on the green screen, on freezing fresh meet, thawing to grind and re-freezing? I know in a lot of circles they say not to ever refreeze meat that has been thawed? What say ye? Is is only ok if you are going to smoke it before re-freezing?

It probably wont hurt you or anything. But it won't taste as good. With that being said i don't do it.

It sure grinds better if it thaws out a little bit.....

I wondered the same thing and looked it up online. Found the same answer every place I looked. If thawed out in a refrigerator it is fine to re-freeze. If thawed out on the drain board must be cooked before re-freezing.

Been doing it forever and never had any problems. Guess there may be a slight loss in the quality of the taste of the meat but nothing noticeable.

x2, I sort of found this out by accident.

Been doing it for years, never any problems. Kill deer throughout the season, debone it, freeze it, and make one Big batch of sausage and hamburger after season is over.

My precessor told me it is an old wives tale. He has had me freeze meat, then thaw it out for processing, then refreeze it till eating time on many occasions. I have found no ill effects.
