A different mind set in Alabama... Score-vs-Weight

Went to visit Rachel this weekend at Maxwell AFB in Alabama... We were out and about on Sat. and stopped by the Bass Pro in Plattsville. I stopped at the "bragging board" to see what kinda deer these folks shoot and I was amazed! There were some brutes to say the least... along with some smaller bucks. BUT what I found intresting was the fact that not one single picture had a BC score on it! They all said points and weight... I guess its just us TX boys that get our rocks off on Score! These folks get theirs off of how much a deer weights...

What are your thoughts? Why do you think the majority of TX hunters (that I know) are concerned with score on a trophy while different parts of the states are more excited about the weight?

different strokes for different folks lol....i am guilty of bein a horn hunter...sooo if a buck walks out that weighs 50 lbs but scores 160...he is dead....if a buck walks out that weighs 200 but scores 50 i laugh and either shoot him as a cull or wait for him to grow lol....crazy people east of odessa im tellin ya

If there was an ugly 160" buck out there and a beautiful 145" that "I" liked better.... well the 145" would get the arrow

TTHA is one driver, not that it's bad. Different motivating factors for folks.

I have found that with maturity you get horns and weight....

Which is reflected in the adoption of the AR regs. by the state and the blind following of it by the hunters.

Bingo! My cousins back home (south Lousiana) have ZERO idea about scoring a deer. You guys got me into it to be honest.......140" or better!!!
Last weekend for superbowl one cousin was telling me about a heavy 9 point he killed this year. I asked what it scored and he said........9 points dude!!!

Exactly! But I knew what he meant instantly and I also knew better than to ask about scoring!

yeah... I grew up in S. Louisiana, and hunted central and N. LA... it was points,
we never talked about score... or body unless it was unusually large....

this year in wisconsin, I'm gonna look for a 145" 6 or 8 point I want unusual now...
something that you have to stare at....

"weight" means more in the freezer to me

Texas used to be like that. I can remember my grandpaw talking about 185 and 195. To me, I was thinking those are monsters but until I found out it was always weight. My dad still talks about a buck my uncle killed that weighed 205lbs. It only scored in 30s and I was thinking "what is the big deal about that buck".
