    Olympic Biathlon with a Bow

I watched the Olympic Biathlon and they had to ski and shoot in the rain, sleet and snow. Free style and lying down shooting positions.

What if they shot a bow instead of gun? How about a recurve?

If you have ever chased something and stopped to shoot, you know how hard it is. You would be a bad man if you could shoot accurately!!

In the past when I was young dumb and more fit. I would leave the bow on the ground and run a quick sprint of maybe 100yds or so just to get my heart pumping and breathing hard. Then circle back to the bow and try to shoot. It wasn't easy. I was trying to simulate the excitement you get when seeing a trophy animal and trying to increase my ability to control it. I got better but it's hard, I have no clue how those guys do what they do in the Biathlon. Amazing!

That said, if they replaced the gun with a bow, which TBH'r would you like to see compete. I say Smart!

To get ready for elk hunting a few years ago, I would put on my hunting boots and hike up the entrance hill at Austin Archery Country then jog back down and shoot. At first I was all over the place with my shot. It was very humbling. After a few months of doing this, I was almost as accurate as if I just stood there. Man I wish I would have kept up that conditioning!

I'm either going elk or caribou hunting in 2011 so I think I'm going to start getting in shape now!

                Ski Archery

I found your thread when I was searching for archery equipment. Since nobody mentioned it in the thread figured I would post it.

Here's a link to the US Archery Biathlon governing organization

                  I don't see that happening.

He'd have too many questions about skis, bindings, snow density, what type socks to wear, how many layers of under armor to wear, what type of hat has the best insulation, what type of goggles provide the best clarity, what type of bow performs best in the snow, what kind of release will not freeze, what kind of arrows will not loose their straightness in the cold, and above all ... can he tow his "Smart ma-hal" to shoot out of since he's invested so much time and money in it and feels totally comfortable shooting out of it!
