    Help with climbing stand!!!!!

I have been using a treelounge for the past few years. My problem is deer spoting me in the tree. I tie limbs to it and that helps but I get busted more than anyone I know. I also hunt high. I measured my string that I pull my bow up with and it is 35 ft. That is where I stop. I know it is the stand puting me 6 ft. off the side of a tree. They siloutte (please excuse spelling) me.

What in yalls opinion is a better climbing stand that stays close to the tree and is comfortable and not too heavy.

I am looking for some ideas. Please help...

I have an Ol Man climbing stand and that thing is great. It only weighs about 16 lbs. I have not had a problem being seen. Just a thought but how much do you move around in that climber you have. It may be your movement and not your siloutte that they are busting you on.

Do you have to move around alot to get to a drawn position? I thought the tree lounger would be better for gun hunting beacuse of the laying position you are in. those jewels are comfortable though. 35 feet is WAY in the air. You might try loewr to the earth like closer to 10-20 feet up. The natural canopy might offer more cover to hide your movements.

API Predator Grand but I do not know if they still make it. It is like sitting in a yard chair. I can easly sit 8 hours or more.

Summit is probably # 1 when it comes to climbing stands. The Viper SS or Goliath is a top seller. Lone Wolf is gaining a huge following because of its lite weight design and quiet climbing. Now that they have redesigned the seat, I feel it deserves a hard look but they are expensive. API makes a pretty good product and I do like their grand slam climber. (stay away from the Grand Slam bowhunter unless you really want a sweaty workout going up a tree).
Those are the 3 brands I would recommend. I have used all three but prefer the Summit.

I have a Summit Cobra X4 that I love. They can still be found in some Accadamy stores for $179-199. It came with a foot rest, and while climbing you can use it as a sit-down/stand-up climber. When ya reach your desired height the bar you sit on swings up over your head and helps lock the seat to the tree and is out of the way for open bow shots. I've spent many of nights sleeping in mine while hog hunting, tucking both elbows in side the arm rest. Very comfortable stand!

Thank you for the replies. I am going to look at the ones yall suggested.

Bowhuntntxn.... I have tried hunting lower but it seems that I have sent problems when I do.

              Anyone else???

                  Re: Climbers

I have used the Summit Viper since 2004 each year. Very comfortable climbing stand that I have a hard time staying awake in!

I went ahead and bought the Reversible Viper Blind (add on) to aid in concealment and warmth during the rare cold times that we have.

I'm in the market for an old man vision. (rekick myself for passing the clearance model at academy 3 years ago- painful memory)

I've hunted from an API & summit for years- but am looking for something that will fold FLAT for easier packing in.

I know the lone wolfs will, but they are too pricy for me.

BTW, I will vote one against the grain for the summit. Everybody loves them except for me. I still use mine, but wouldn't mind if it grew legs & walked off (I'd have a better excuse to buy a new one then).

It is very very very comfortable and easy to tote around. No complaints with it.

Another thing, too is to take a look at the tree you're in. One thing that I noticed that I was getting busted for was that every slight movement would cause the tree to move. On windy days it wasn't too bad, but on calm days, the deer wouldn't come near the only tree that moved the slightest bit.

I like my ground blinds, now....

I use a tree lounge and love it. Bowhunting is not a problem if you have the extra pad and change the angle on the tree to make you sit up more. I have sat in many other stands and non compare comfort wise in my book.

Climb a tree that has some limbs hanging down to help cover you. I have shot several deer out of mine and two at about 12 feet off the ground. I use mine as a chain on type and place it up in a non climable tree and then use climbing sticks or ladder to get to it. You should see the tree I am in now....awesome setup. I would not be so quick to change stands but change your methods or setups. There is no need in hunting anywhere near that high. 15 to 20 ft is plenty if you are still and have the right setup. I like to climb up to a limb and stop there. The limb offers cover, a place to hang bow,stuff,etc... and something to break up your outline. Are they busing you on movement or what? I set mine up where my preferred shot it to my hard right(I shot left handed) Easy to shoot out of without standing/moving that way...

here is last yrs setup with my tree lounge. Didnt hunt it much but did shoot a bobcat sitting in my stand eating a rabbit. I was on the ground were the corn is and shot it with 45 auto. Crazy story!

I will try and get pics prettys soon and post this yrs setup. I love it!
