Boiling head issue

I took some advice off a thread i started a couple days ago asking how to boil heads (this is my first). I left it in there an hr and got most of it off but the base of my horns is significantly darker. is that just temporary? is there anything i can do?

I thought that if the bases were in the water they would lighten.
BTW, put a little bit (little bit) of Borax in the water.

will the whole horns darken or just the bases?

It really helps with everything coming off the skull easier. But I stressed a little bit for a reason, too much will damage the skull. Don't ask how I know that

is there a way to make the color the same? aka either lightining the bases or darkening the rest?

There is antler stain you can get from a taxidermy catalog!

Once it dries it should even back out.

I usually wrap the bases in foil really tight while they are boiling and that helps to keep them from darkening. They should lighten back up after a while.

i have never had a problem as long as i did not put anything in the water. and i sure cant imagine them being darker. are you sure they just have not dried yet.

Once it dries it should even back out.

Mine did this as well....the water darkened them and once they dried the went back to normal.
